CUSC Arsenal U17 Boys has made it 3 tournament Championships in a row with their undefeated run in the Beach FC Columbus Day Tournament.  Playing in the Premier Division, Arsenal went 3-0-1 including a 5-0 Finals victory on Sunday over FASA Elite.  During group play on Saturday, Arsenal fought to a scoreless tie with FPYC Force (Fairfax, Va.) and earned a 4-0 win over VCCL team, the Richmond Strikers Elite.  That was followed up on Sunday with a 2-0 over the SOCA Lightning, another VCCL team.  For the tournament, Arsenal outscored their opposition 11-0 making it the second straight tournament that Arsenal has not been scored upon.  Arsenal also upped their record for the 2009 season against VCCL teams to 3-0.

 

Their first 2009 unscored upon tournament was Arsenal’s Championship run @ the Williamsburg Cup over the Labor Day weekend (pictured).  For this tournament, Arsenal outscored their opponents 18-0 defeating the Richmond Strikers Premier, FASA Premier Rebels, and the host team, VLSC Wizards, in the group play.  In the Championship, Arsenal defeated a resilient Sterling Vipers team 2-0.

 

Arsenal’s first 2009 tournament Championship came in mid-August @ the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.  Actually, it was a ruled a Co-Championship after lightning eliminated the possibility of a Sunday afternoon final.  In reaching the final, Arsenal defeated CESA Challenge from nearby South Carolina, Cobb FC Premier (Atlanta, Ga. area), and Columbia United Elite (South Carolina) in overtime in the Semi-finals.

 

Next up for Arsenal, the 17 member team is seeking to advance further than last year’s Quarterfinal round finish in the VYSA State Cup as well as defend their VSLI Premier Division league title.  They are currently in the Quarterfinal round of this year’s State Cup Championship and are 3-0 in VSLI league play.
