Strikers Continue Winning Ways, Sweep Double-Header

October 15, 2008

The Strikers remain undefeated by taking both games of a double-header last Saturday, taking down NUSC Arsenal 4-0 in the opener, and Currituck Crush in the second match, 2-0.

In the first match, the Strikers had a comfortable lead at the break, thanks to two goals by Collin, his third and fourth of the season.  Two insurance goals followed in the second half; one by Andrew on a penalty kick, and the other by Zach on a keeper miscue.

In the second match, goals by Grant in the first half and Zach in the second half were enough to hold off a tough Crush squad.

Not enough can be said about the tough fortress that is the Strikers back line, led by Steven at keeper.  Pitching two more shutouts for a total of four out of five matches so far on the season, the Strikers have scored 17 goals while only relenquishing one.

Next up: at home this Saturday against CUSC Chaos.  Bring quarters....lots of them.

Strikers On A Roll, Take Down Chelsea, 3-1

September 29, 2008

The Indian summer heat and humidity was still with us on Saturday in addition to a soggy field.  But the Strikers again prevailed against its second Portsmouth club in as many weeks to defeat the Portsmouth Chelsea by a score of 3-1.  First-half scores by Tico (his fourth of the season) and Andrew in the first half held off a stubborn Chelsea squad.  In the second half, Chelsea made a match of it by pulling within one at 2-1.  However, a late goal by Kyler put the match out of reach.  The Strikers’ next match is a double-header, with NUSC Arsenal in the opener, and the Currituck Crush in the nightcap.

Bring lots of quarters!!

Strikers Play Tough, Defeat Fusion 2-0

September 23, 2008

The Strikers had a difficult match this week against a scrappy Portsmouth Fusion team, but came away victorious by a score of 2-0.  Hard-earned goals by Tico (his third of the season)  in the first half, and Kyler after the break rounded out the scoring.  Great defensive play by Steven and Jacob kept the Fusion in check, resulting in the second shut-out in as many weeks.  Next up: at home against Portsmouth Chelsea.

Bring your quarters!!

Strikers Extinguish Spitfires,Take Opener 6-0

September 15, 2008

After being rained out the previous week, the Strikers took advantage of a hot and humid day and a short-handed Currituck Spitfires team to overwhelm them 6-0.  Spending much of the first half on the offensive end of the pitch, the Strikers missed on numerous scoring opportunities.  Not until late in the period did they get scores from Curt and Tico to go into halftime up 2-0.  In the second half, it was all Strikers as an exhausted Spitfires squad simply ran out of gas in the heat and had no answer to second half goals from Tico (his second of the match), Grant, and two from Collin.
