“There is something for everyone!”
“Be a better player on Friday!”
Chesapeake United Soccer Club’s SUMMER CAMP SERIES 2009 is here. What a wonderful way to enjoy the camp experience, be challenged, improve your game and prepare for the fall soccer season. There is something for everyone at CUSC CAMP that includes three weeks with varying themes. Chesapeake United is also proud to sponsor one week of 3D Soccer Camp.
No need to travel for the day camp experience. Bob Sokolinsky, Executive Director for Chesapeake United brings over 30 years of camp management and coaching experience to Chesapeake. Bob was former Director of Cape Henry Collegiate Summer Camp, and owner and Director of “Bob Sokolinsky’s Soccer Camp for GIRLS ONLY!” held at Virginia Wesleyan College for many years. For the past 15 years, Bob worked with Middle States Soccer Camp, a very successful residential camp held throughout the summer. Over that space of time, he has been Coach, Technical Director, Site Coordinator and Administrative Director at MSSC. For the past 9 years, Bob has trained players and taken teams on a ten day ‘European soccer experience’. With 12 years of collegiate coaching (both men and women), state ODP and state instructional staff experience, Bob brings a lot to the table. “My goal is simple. I want you to have a great time at camp and be a better player on Friday than you were on Monday!”

Crush Blue Records Championship Title -2009 North American Sand Soccer Championships - U11 Seahorse Division
June 2009

What a weekend!! The weather was mild. Sand could be said to be near perfect condition. The need for sun, fun, and yes soccer was at a peak. Team Crush came out of their first game with a loss in what could best be described as a steep learning curve. Crush quickly adjusted to this game of sand soccer where speed, endurance, and the ability to mount strong attacks and lightning transitions are a must. The results were soon reflected. Crush would continue to mount wins and take the Championship Title in the U11 Seahorse Division after winning their match against Beach FC Baar, a strong local competitor, in a 1-0 final score.
Coach Mike expressed his gratitude to the tournament committee, the teams, and players’ families which make these events and memories possible.
Great work ladies! You deserve the title and hardware you worked so hard to achieve.

CUSC U11 Fury bring home the Columbia Invitational Championship
May 2009

The U11 Fury traveled to Columbia for their final tournament appearance of the season. In their only Saturday match, the Fusion played to a 2-0 victory over the Laurel Blackhawks. The first Sunday match placed the Soccer of Columbia United Classic against Fury and Fury came away the victors in a 3-1 result. Their final match of the day would send one team on to the Championship and one home. The Fury and the SSA Hotspurs were an evenly matched throughout. The Fury struck extremely early and held a 1-0 result at the half. The entire nail-biting second half netted zero goals and sent the boys anticipating the finals on Monday. The finals pitted the ASA Arsenal ’97 premier’s highest preliminary round scoring offense against Fury’s best defense of the tournament. The match was amazingly fast and physical. At the end, the Fury was crowned champions by a 5-2 victory. A very well played tournament!
Crush Blue Brings Home Finalist Title in Memorial Day Weekend Virginian Tournament
May 2009

It what turned out to be a great event, Team Crush ended the Memorial Day weekend winning the Finalist Title in the Premier Silver Bracket. Crush began play on Saturday against the Chantilly Revolution. The Revolution brought speed, good technical skills and aggression to the first match of the tournament which presented the Crush with their only loss in their bracket play. Following the early morning Saturday loss, team Crush brought all the needed elements to mount continued wins against FCF Academy Blue, SYC Pride White and Arlington Rowdies Red, which eventually advanced them to the finals. The finals matched team Crush against the Vienna Strikers White. During this match Crush and Vienna mounted well planned attacks and presented premier match play which could have easily been forecasted as a win for either side as the match progressed. In the end Vienna won with a narrow one point lead. Coach Mike, Matt and Marlo were delighted with the outcome and look forward to our next event.
PS...yes there is a story behind the pink socks. Coach Mike and Matt agreed to wear the socks at the Finals Match is we advanced :). It was painful but well worth the effort and fun had by all.

U12 Strikers - TASL A Division Champions
The U12 Strikers won the A Division TASL EOST this last weekend. After winning their first game against a solid NYSL Knights team, the boys fought back from 0-2 down to 3-2 at the half, only to lose 3-4 in the last minute to a very tough Smithfield SC Ignite. Needing a win the next morning, the Strikers held their AYSO EC United opponents in check for 60 minutes and snatched a very late winner to set themselves up for possible advancement. Having put the pressure on the second placed team in the flight, the Strikers advanced to the finals when that team drew it's final game. Facing the CSL Cool Breeze in the final, the Strikers finished the half 2-0 in front. The Cool Breeze converted a second half penalty, and followed it with a 20 minute all out assault of the Strikers goal, throwing as many as 3 or 4 players up forward. As they did all weekend, the Strikers forwards worked tirelessly to close down the ball, the midfielders worked as hard coming back and they did going forward, the defenders held a steadfast front to repel all comers while the keeper was quick to help his team with decisive action inside and when necessary just outside of his box. With a 2-1 victory, the Strikers received their first TASL EOST Champions medals - a deserved win for such a fabulous squad of players.
U18G Galaxy - Champions - Farewell and Fond Memories
The U18 Girls Galaxy concluded their final season and eight-year run as a team (from 2001- 2009) as champions in the 2009 CUSC Icebreaker Tournament. With a 4 - 0 record in the tournament that saw the Galaxy score 17 goals and allow only 1 against, this was a perfect culmination of a brilliant team performance.
The team ends its play in the club with these amazing statistics from 2001 to 2009:
- The Galaxy played in 49 tournaments and 139 tournament matches with a record of 73 - 49 - 9 (WLT).
- The team played in 100 regular season matches with a record of 65 - 22 - 13, including three undefeated 8 - 0 seasons and two seasons with only one loss
- The total record over the eight years was 138 - 69 - 32
- Four players—Kelsey, Lindsay, Ariel and Sydney (all original Academy players) played all eight years
- Five players—Sheena, Megan, Eva, Katie, Kendall played seven years
- Five players (including two sets of twins)—Amanda, Angela, Christine, Liz and Kendal played six years
- As a U14 team, the Galaxy scored 52 goals gave up 8 and recorded 18 shut outs
This is a remarkable team whose success is not merely reflected in wins or losses. This is a group of players who possess a rare chemistry, skill level and love for each other and the game that is a tribute to all of them and their wonderful and supportive families. It was a great pleasure, honor and privilege to coach them and work with such fine young people.
Special thanks and credit must go to three integral members of this great team: Lynn Dill, our premier team manager for all these years, whose diligence and work ethic is unparalleled; Coach Randy Bethea, whose technical training is responsible for our players’ skill level and our team’s offensive success; Coach Phil Dill, whose patience, knowledge of the game and work with our goalkeepers and defenders is reflected in the Galaxy’s ability to shut down opponents. I also want to extend my sincere thanks to all the hard working members of CUSC, who, over the years, have contributed to our team’s successful experience. The support has been incredible from club administrators, club coaches and parent volunteers!
So while, I am saddened to say farewell to this superb group of young women who clearly embody the attributes we want all our children to possess and who have consistently represented Chesapeake soccer so well for so many years, I am confident in knowing that they have only begun to achieve extraordinary heights.
All the best to them and our club in the future!
