The U12-G TEAM Fire won the 2009 TASL EOST for the B Division on May 3.
TEAM Fire had an outstanding season out scoring their opponents 38 - 11
and finishing with a combined regular season / tournament record of 11 wins
and 0 loses. TEAM Fire faced some tuff challenges in the tournament, everyone
seemed to step it up a couple of notches. The girls showed what they were
made of by never loosing their cool with each tournament game that was as
close as they could get. In the first game, we beat a tuff NYSL Lunachix
team 1-0 on a second half goal by Ashley Nichols. The second game was
much like the first. It was a battle from start to finish against CUSC Xplosion,
with Alyssa Laughlin scoring the only goal of the game with just minutes
to play. The semi-final was yet another nail biter, but Katie Brown came
through with a great penalty kick from 19 yards out with 3 minutes left in
the game to beat NYSL Hurricanes. In the finals, we faced CUSC Xplosion
for the third time this season. What a "grudge match." Team Fire had a 2-0
lead early in the second half with goals by Christina Navarro and Sara
Curry, but Xplosion never quit! They came back and tied the game up
with about five minutes left. After going to overtime and still no score the
game went to penalty kicks. Team Fire turned it on with Alyssa Laughlin,
Christina, Navarro, Sara Curry, and Katie Brown scoring to give TEAM Fire
the 6-3 win and the EOST Championship. ALL the girls contributed and did
a great job! The defense was anchored by Payton Grissom and Goalie Hartley
"The Wall" Cramer, who recorded 3 shut-outs in the tournament and 7 total
for the year. With it being my last season as Head Coach, I couldn't ask
for a better way to go out. Good luck to Coach Ron and the girls next
season. I know you are going to do some awesome things together!
