The Concept: Small-sided games with three players on each side during a match. This maximizes the opportunity for players to get "touches" on the ball, an essential aspect to developing basic soccer skills.
All coaching is done by volunteer parents who will be trained by CUSC staff members and encouraged to take a six hour course of instruction on training children at this age level. Each team will have two parent coaches; a Technical Director will also be working with the program to assist coaches with training sessions.
Teams normally practice once a week and have one game a week. Normal season will consist of ten games. No scoring is recorded and no goalies are used, as the focus is on development of basic technical skills and instilling an enjoyment for the game at both the player and parental level.
Equipment: Players will be provided a team jersey that is included in the seasonal cost of $45/player. Black shorts and socks can be purchased inexpensively from Premier Soccer or a local discount store (Walmart/Target), as well as a size 3 soccer ball and shin guards.
